Lecture Series
An information series presented by:
The Vancouver Civic Employees Assistance Program
‘Lifestyles and Learning’ talks are available to all employees of the City of Vancouver. These information sessions can be adapted to fit your time requirements (from a minimum of 30 minutes), and be delivered to employees at the worksite. A minimum of six per group is requested. Groups can choose from the following topics, or can put in a special request for a relevant topic of their choice.
1. Care For Your Aging Parent
Are you concerned about your aging parents? Decisions about their future and the care they receive? Are you responsible for providing that care? Does it leave you feeling alone and overwhelmed, with a sense that your own life has been put on hold? If so, you are not alone. This presentation will look at how to establish effective ways to approach the demanding and often delicate situations you face in caring for a parent; information to help you be better equipped for taking care of your loved one – and yourself.
2. Shifting Habits & Implementing Positive Goals
Learn a dynamic process for change that you can apply to any future habit changes you desire. Having more understanding of the change process will help you create a climate where you can be successful in changing and creating useful habits and goals.
3. Understanding The Grief Process
Grief is a natural process that we experience after suffering a significant loss. While grieving is difficult and painful, it does not have to immobilize us. We can learn to be patient with ourselves and others during periods of grief by understanding what we are going through. What should you expect while you are coping with grief? How will you react? Knowledge helps us avoid the major pitfalls of grief. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the grief process, how you can understand your own grief journey and offer suggestions on how you can support others who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
4. When Anxiety And Panic Take Over
Depression is not something imagined or ‘all in your head’. Anxiety can turn into constant feelings of fear and distress. When anxiety or depression become so serious that they interfere with your life and work, lead you to avoid certain situations or keep you from enjoying your life, then you may be suffering from one of the two of the most common mental health problems facing people today. This informative talk will help you understand the facts about depression and anxiety, and can be that important first step to receiving help.
